Hadrat Abdullaah Bin Abbas Radiyallaahu Anhuma said:

One day, I was riding behind the Prophet Sallallaahu Alaihi Wa sallam when he said:

“O boy! I will instruct you in some matters. Be watchful of Allah Ta’ala ( i.e. His Commandments), He will preserve and protect you. Safeguard His Rights, He will be ever with you. If you beg, beg of Him Alone; and if you need assistance, supplicate to Allah Ta’ala alone for help. And remember that if all the people gather to benefit you, they will not be able to benefit you except that which Allah had foreordained (for you); and if all of them gather to do harm to you, they will not be able to afflict you with anything other than that which Allah had pre-destined against you. The pens had been lifted and the ink had dried up.”[At-Tirmidhi]

Another narration is: Messenger of Allah (SallAllahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) said:
“Safeguard the Commandments of Allah, you will find Him before you. Remember Him in prosperity and He will remember you in adversity. Be sure that which you miss, was not to hit you; and what hits you, was never to miss you. Remember that the Help of Allah is obtained with patience, and relief emerges after distress, prosperity follows adversity, and hardship is followed by ease”.

In the above hadeeth we see the critical importance of Tarbiyaah (Islamic upbringing) in the lives of our children. The Prophet Sallallaahu Alaihi Wa Sallam finds himself travelling with a little boy and what does he do? Instead of indulging in nonsensical blabber which most of us do to keep the child entertained, he sees this as a perfect opportunity for a Tarbiyaah (Islamic Upbringing) lesson. Here he instills in Hadrat Abdullaah Bin Abbaas Radiyallaahu Anhu Islamic values. One could easily say that these words of the Prophet Sallallaahu Alaihi Wa Sallam served as the founding blocks or better still “A lesson of Life”for a little boy who would later become known as “Raeesul Mufassireen” (Chief Commentator of the Holy Qur’aan). Such a standing did Hadrat Abdullaah Bin Abbaas Radiyallaahu ANhu hold amongst the companions Radiyallaahu Anhum Ajmaeen that often senior Sahabaa when perplexed with certain verses and their exact meanings of the Holy Qur’aan turned to Hadrat Abdullaah Bin Abbaas Radiyallahu Anhu for clarity and elaboration.

1. No one has the power to change the Decision of Allah Ta’ala for this is unchangeable regardless what one may do to change the outcome of events in their lives. Sadly today our plans for a project by far outweighs our trust and reliance in Allah Ta’ala. This should be our first resort and not the last as we do! Ultimately no matter what ‘waterproof’ plans of action we may put in place, it is only that which Allah Ta’ala has decreed that will come to pass rendering everything else useless and making our plans futile.

2. Whatever trouble one has to suffer in this world, it does not last for ever. Every trouble is followed by prosperity, pleasure and happiness. Likewise, all the joys of this worldly life will come to an end too. After all the intrinsic nature of this world is that it is temporary. All that which happens in it cannot be otherwise!

3. One should never ask other than Allah anyone’s help in supernatural way because it amounts to ascribing partnership with Allah. If a person is mindful of the Rights of Allah, then Allah, in return takes care of his needs and helps him. On the other hand when one places his needs before other than Allah Ta’ala and becomes neglectful of His commandments then Allah Ta’ala distances and deserts Himself from such a person leaving him to fend for himself in his troubles.
